How to determine the required wall thickness and bend radius?
Wall thickness selection
Choose based on working pressure, temperature, and media corrosion level.
Options include 10S (lightweight) or 40S (standard) schedules.
Bend radius selection
- Tight radius (1D–1.2D): Best for limited space and compact layouts
- Loose radius (1.5D+): Lower fluid resistance, ideal for exhaust and high-flow systems
Not sure which to choose? Share your working conditions—we'll recommend the best fit.
What's the difference between 45° and 90° elbows?
45° elbow: Features a smoother curve with a larger turning radius. It changes direction by 45 degrees, making it less abrupt.
90° elbow: Has a sharper, tighter radius with a full right-angle turn, causing a more sudden directional change.
For more details, check out our blog for a full explanation.
Aspect | 45° Elbow | 90° Elbow |
---|---|---|
Bend angle | Changes pipe direction by 45° | Changes pipe direction by 90° |
Flow resistance / pressure drop | Lower resistance, smoother flow | Sharper turn, higher resistance, greater pressure drop possible |
Typical applications | Smooth transitions for gas/liquid, HVAC, drainage | Compact layouts, limited space, vertical or horizontal turns |
Space requirement | Longer installation radius, takes more space | Shorter radius, fits tight spaces |
Connection types | Welded, butt weld, threaded, flanged | Welded, butt weld, threaded, flanged |
Common size range | 1/2" to 8" | Suitable from small to large diameters (over 24" available) |
Aesthetics & flowline | Smoother curve, widely used in automotive exhausts | Sharper bend, mainly used in industrial piping systems |
Manufacturing methods | Seam hot pressing, welding, forging | Seam hot pressing, welding, forging |
